Is Doughty on your radar? Fantasy football tips (1)

Luton full-back Alfie Doughty should be on your radar this week.

He's got a home fixture against Sheffield United, his team will play two fixtures in each of gameweek 25 and 28, and his form is excellent having produced five attacking returns along with two clean sheets in the last six games - he'll cost you just £4.6 million.

The only downside is that he won't play in gameweek 26 because Luton, like Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea, don't have a Premier League fixture that weekend, so you'll just need to plan accordingly.

The same goes if you're tempted by any Liverpool players ahead of their home game against Burnley on Saturday and then their double gameweek 25 which sees a trip to Brentford and a home fixture against Luton.

They won't be available to you in gameweek 26 so you might have to consider whether it's worth taking a points hit or two on transfers to ship them out again to be able to field a full 11 that week.

Personally I think the risk could be worth the rewards which is why I'm going to sign Darwin Nunez ahead of Ivan Toney despite the fact that Toney also has a double gameweek 25 AND a fixture in gameweek 26.

Brentford are guaranteed to play in gameweek 29 as well, when Liverpool would blank again if they beat Southampton to make it through to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

That definitely makes Toney the more sensible pick but Nunez has the better fixtures in the next two gameweeks. And despite the fact there's more chance of rotation in that Liverpool frontline with the Carabao Cup final on the way and Mo Salah working his way back to fitness, I want to have the Uruguayan in my team for that game when he turns all those expected goals into actual goals!

I think you want at least two Liverpool and two Manchester City players in your team when gameweek 25 comes around, add Doughty in there and you should be in good shape to rack up a decent score.

You could always use the Free Hit chip in gameweek 25 or 26 to really help you attack the double and then navigate the blanks, so have a play with it and see what you think works best for your squad.

Captaincy

I think it's time to give Erling Haaland the captaincy back for Manchester City's home game against Everton.

Congratulations if you went with Phil Foden or Ollie Watkins last week but Haaland's had another game under his belt and those goals are surely just around the corner.

Diogo Jota and Nunez are both good captaincy options against Burnley, as is Richarlison for Tottenham's home game against Brighton, but it's Haaland all the way for me this week.

Fixtures to target

It's really all about lining up those double gameweek players in our squads for next week so you want to be looking at Manchester City, Liverpool, Luton and Brentford.

Signing Alisson or Thomas Kaminski could be one way to go - a good fixture this week, the double in gameweek 25 and then they're easily benched in gameweek 26 as your other keeper can come in to the team.

If you've held on to Son Heung-min while he's been away at the Asian Cup then have a listen to what Ange Postecoglou says about his chances of being involved against Brighton, because that looks like a good game for the attackers on both teams.

Differentials

Doughty has just climbed over the differential mark of 5% ownership so let's consider a few of his team-mates with those double gameweeks in mind.

Ross Barkley, Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris look like the best picks although I've been impressed by Chiedozie Ogbene whenever I've watched Luton live this season and he's had attacking returns in their last two games against Brighton and Newcastle.

I mentioned Rodri last week but Bernardo Silva is only at 4.5% ownership if you're looking for a differential attacker in the Manchester City line-up. He's not as explosive as Jeremy Doku but he's a more regular starter and has produced three double-digit hauls already this season, one of those against Everton, who City host on Saturday.

And if you're looking for an in-form striker who won't break the bank then you could consider Brentford's Neal Maupay, who's scored three goals in his last three games. Yoane Wissa will provide competition for his spot when he's available again after international duty but Maupay's looked like a player reborn since linking up with Toney on his return.

Gamble of the week

My gamble is going for Nunez over Toney but if you want to double down then a Nunez captaincy could be fun this week, even though I'm not brave enough myself to back against Haaland.
