Ohio Lottery General Rules and Regulations

The following are the most prominent rules and regulations that the player should be aware of before playing the Ohio lottery games.

  • Ohio Lottery players must be 18 years of age or older.
  • It is the player’s responsibility to check his or her ticket to make sure it represents the correct game, draw date, numbersrequested and has a visible bar code or serial number
  • The ticket, not the playslip, is the only valid proof of your number selection, and it is the only valid receipt to claim aprize.
  • A ticket is a bearer instrument. It is recommended that the ticket be signed at the time of purchase.
  • The Ohio Lottery is not responsible for lost or stolen tickets. Tickets are void and will not be paid if determined stolen,unissued, illegible, mutilated, altered in whole or part, misregistered, defective, incomplete, printed or produced in error,multiply-printed.

Claiming Prizes of the Ohio Lottery

Here are the steps you have to follow if you are a lucky winner of any Ohio lottery,

  • Winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the winning draw date on the ticket.
  • First, sign the back of your ticket immediately. Then take it to any Ohio Lottery Retailer for validation.
  • If your prize is worth $599 or less, you can receive your winnings in cash at any Ohio Lottery Retailer.
  • If you win between $600 and $5,000, take your winning ticket to a retailer location, where you will receive a Pay to Bearerticket. At this point, you have two options: Obtain a claim form from the agent retailer, or download OH lottery web site. Followthe instructions carefully. Your retailer will have a list of bank-cashing locations in your area where you may receive paymentby presenting proper identification
  • If you win more than $5,000, contact the nearest lottery regional office and make arrangements to file a claim in person.
  • Jackpot winners of the Mega Millions, Powerball and Classic Lotto games should call their nearest Ohio Lottery regionaloffice to make an appointment to submit the claim.

The entire net proceeds of any lottery are paid into a fund of the state treasury that shall consist solely of such proceedsand shall be used solely for the support of elementary, secondary, vocational, and special education programs as determined inappropriations made by the General Assembly.
