So glad to find your blog and you are so correct. My daughter in law is from Romania where her parents own a lot of land and every bit is planted with everything they eat. She cooks clean and can she cook! Her food is so much better than going out even to fine restaurants- all because of what she picks to start with and then cooks from scratch. So glad to see you gluten free recipes as she cannot have gluten plus is a diabetic- thanks for new ideas.

FAQs

What is the best food for gluten-free guests? ›

Fruits and vegetables are naturally gluten-free—so have plenty on hand for snacking. Rice, wild rice, corn and quinoa are gluten-free foods. Price Chopper does sell several different brands of gluten-free pasta. Meat, fish and chicken are also gluten-free, but some cold cuts do contain wheat starch as binders.

What happens when you stop eating gluten? ›

Some people report feeling dizziness, nausea, extreme hunger and even anxiety and depression when they suddenly go from eating a lot of gluten to being gluten-free. These symptoms usually go away after a few weeks on a gluten-free diet, but talk to your health care provider if they persist.

What are 5 ingredients to avoid in a gluten free diet? ›

1) Read the ingredient label. Avoid all products with wheat, rye, barley, malt, or triticale in the ingredient label. Even if a packaged food product is labeled "gluten-free," you should check for these ingredients as mistakes in labeling can happen. The only exception for this is wheat starch.

Is peanut butter gluten-free? ›

In its natural form, both peanuts and peanut butter are gluten-free. Many store-bought brands of peanut butter are also gluten-free, with gluten-containing peanut butter tending to be the exception rather than the rule.

How to go 100% gluten-free? ›

Choose naturally gluten-free grains and flours, including rice, corn, soy, potato, tapioca, sorghum, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, cassava, coconut, arrowroot, amaranth, teff, flax, chia, yucca, bean flours, and nut flours.

What are the worst foods for celiac disease? ›

In general, avoid the following foods if you have celiac disease: Cereals, breads, or other grain products that include wheat, rye, barley, or oats. This includes white or whole-wheat flour (including cookies, crackers, cakes, and most other baked goods), semolina, couscous, bread crumbs, most pastas, and malt.

Is there a downside to going gluten-free? ›

Nutrient deficiencies

As a result of processing, gluten free foods are more likely to be low in essential nutrients such as calcium, fibre, iron and vitamin B12.

What are the cheapest gluten-free meals? ›

Fruit, yogurts, chia pudding, oatmeal (if you can tolerate oats), egg, potatoes, lettuce wrapped items, meat and veggies, etc. Buy in bulk. Check your local Costco for gluten free items, it's always cheaper.

What is an example of a gluten-free meal? ›

Dinner: Peruvian-Style Roasted Chicken with Sweet Onions

Serve with gluten-free rice or grains, plus a simple green salad.

Are potatoes naturally gluten-free? ›

The simple answer is yes — potatoes are gluten-free. Gluten is a type of protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and other grains. Potatoes aren't grains, they're a type of starchy vegetable. That's good news for people who can't tolerate gluten because they have celiac disease or gluten intolerance.
